In fall 1995, the Data Broadcasting Corporation created DBC Online, but it would not be until July 30, 1997 that the domain name MarketWatch.com would be registered. By October 1997, the site launched as a shared venture between DBC and CBS News and would hire Thom Calandra as editor-in-chief and then David Callaway as editor-in-chief a few years later. Two years later, MarketWatch would become a publicly traded company during the dot.com bubble being sold for as high $130 on its first day of trading.
In 2000, the platform formed a joint venture with finance-related magazine Financial Times and hired Peter Bales as managing editor. Five years later, Dow Jones & Company acquired the online financial and business news publication. Since that time, MarketWatch would become one of the premier sources of finance, investing, and money news.
