World-renowned for its film and television industries, Los Angeles is more than just La La Land. Socal culture and vibe mixes diversity with the sun and the sea and fun, and yes lots of money. While most Los Angelinos are at the beach, the coffee shops, martini lounges, museums or the numerous diversion that contribute to the city’s dynamic, Wilshire Boulevard in downtown LA is home to the city’s financial giants.
One of these financial giants is the investment firm Wedbush Securities. Wedbush is a leading firm in helping its clients with wealth management and financial literacy. The list of services and products provide clients with a comprehensive menu of wealth management and investment banking services through its four divisions—capital markets, wealth management, correspondent services, and futures. Potential clients looking for a place to park their wealth can visit the company at wedbush.com to see all of the services and resources available.
The company was named in a coin toss between two friends when founder Edward Wedbush won (or lost)—neither wanting the company named after them in case of failure. Both just graduated from college and decided to pool $5,000 to launch what would later become Wedbush and Company in 1955. They would not actually occupy office space in the Crenshaw district until two years later when the firm moved.
Three years later, Wedbush’s friend would sell his interest to Wedbush who would then spend the next 13 years building the investment firm. His hard work and industry would pay off because by 1971 the company would become members of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), and the National Securities Clearing Corporation (NSCC). The following year the company would expand its services and products to include correspondent clearings services, trading execution for other firms, and later in 1975, an investment banking group. Wedbush has continued to expand its offerings throughout the years, even adding retail brokerage offices, launching BrokerInsight (a workstation) in 2006, and then in 2009, becoming the number one liquidity provider on the NASDAQ.
The last ten years, the company has purchased Lime Brokerage (which would later be sold), snagged top spot as the number one stock-picking firm, and managed to make a lot of money for their clients. They became a part of the cryptocurrency phenomenon when they began taking Bitcoin payments in 2014, and in the same year, they purchased the agricultural brokerage firm First Capitol Ag. Today, the company has become one of the leading firms and investment banks with more than 100 offices on the West Coast.
Wedbush has established itself as a leader in wealth management, as it has earned top honors from Barron’s, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Financial Times, Starmine.
