A media property Verizon Communications, Yahoo! News is a news web platform that began as an aggregate of news stories from other organizations and staff writers. Readers visiting the page can read news from the around the world covering health, US news, politics, science, sports and entertainment, finance, and special topics (for example developments related to COVID-19). Since its inception, the site has become one of the most popular ones worldwide, ranking sixth in 2019 ahead of news giants such as Fox News and CNN.
Jerry Yang and David Filo were graduate students who developed the earlier version of Yahoo!. Launched in 1994 as Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web, the platform reached 100 web page catalogues one month after launching, and by May, the site saw 100,000 viewers. By March 1995, Yahoo! was incorporated, showing ads only a few months later.
In 2001, Yahoo! News established the “most emailed” page program on the web to show people the effect that online news sources have on the public’s appetite for stories. However, in 2006, Yahoo! News stopped accepting online comments on its news articles, resuming them in 2010. By 2011, the news organization began creating original content in an attempt to become a bonafide news organization. Previous to this time, Yahoo!News drew many of its stories from Fox News, Al Jazeera, ABC News, CNN, USA Today, Reuters, the Associated Press, and the BBC.
The news platform has received a few accolades including ranking sixth in 2019. Six years earlier, Amazon-owned data collection service ranked the news platform as one of the top platforms in 2013.
Yahoo! News provides news coverage for national and global events. Primarily an online platform, Yahoo! News offers readers their daily dose of health, finance, entertainment and sporting, politics, and international stories. Get your business on Yahoo! News by sending a press release.
